Through our work with employers, were building a movement for change in mental health at work.

Individuals are struggling to find the right balance between work and family responsibility. Another key factor is a good work life balance. Quite frankly, its time we stop ignoring mental health. In fact, there has been a rise in the time children have to wait before they are given treatment. Make sure you're eating as healthy as possible, with plenty of fruit and vegetables, and make sure you're drinking enough water.

It often takes an intuitive colleague or manager to set the ball rolling. It'll help you think more clearly, reduce stress and improve your concentration. Discussing managing and supporting mental health at work can be a good way to alleviate a difficult situation. Employee morale will be down and this can impact the whole culture like wildfire. If your employees have questions, know whom they can turn to for answers. To enable intervention, of course, managers must be prepared to act.

WHO has stressed that organisations have a responsibility to support individuals with mental disorders in either continuing or returning to work. You may also want to offer employees additional support to help them deal with mental health issues. Everyone should feel safe and supported to talk about mental health in the workplace with their line manager. If this is the case, you should be prepared and ensure you have a supply staff can use, as well as asking them to bring in their own masks if they have them already. And thats what we have to do if we want to help this mental health crisis.

A change of scene or a change of pace is good for your mental health. If a work schedule prevents an employee from getting proper sleep or sufficient social interaction outside of the workplace, it can create a negative trend for that individual's mental health. Having positive thoughts can help you feel better. Sometimes, a phased return to work can be helpful, with someone working a few hours a day and building back up to working their contracted hours. A reaction to a difficult life event, such as bereavement, can make workplace mental health higher on the agenda. From discussions with the project managers it emerged that six of the projects were at too early a stage of their development to facilitate access to people who had retained open employment for a year or focused on sheltered rather than open employment.

But it can be a sign there is a mental health issue if it carries on for longer than expected or is interfering with how that person does their job. These changes ensure that, as long as you have the rights skills for it, there are no barriers to you being able to apply for or carry out a job. All too often, businesses may offer counseling and other mental health benefits but then make it difficult for workers to actually exercise those benefits. Furthermore your employers may provide dedicated help lines or mental health support group or counselling which could provide extra support, your employer should be able to outline these services available to you. How you create and implement your plan is up to you. If you are a manager then workplace wellbeing initiatives is a subject that you will be aware of.

If you are worried about anything, you can always reach out for help. But without continued, open communication with your employees; you run the risk of them filling in the gaps themselves. Its important that line managers have the knowledge and confidence to signpost an employee to more expert sources of support, for example recommending a GP visit or referral to occupational health. It contains a huge range of support services to contact if you need help or are supporting someone else. This is not a case of business as usualbut at home.

But away from the glare of publicity what's actually going on - what are employers actually doing? Talking about mental health first aid in the workplace is a good step forward.
